Lockdown prayers 14

I can’t begin to tell you, Lord, how messed up people are.
They say one thing and mean another.
They do something and say they didn’t mean it,
They hold others accountable for sins they themselves commit.
They’re hypocritical, lying, cheating, manipulative snakes, Lord!

I can’t begin to tell you how beautiful people are.
They give their last penny to a worthwhile cause.
They weep at the pain of others who they’ll probably never meet.
They love selflessly and forgive while their own pain is raw.
They’re wonderful, joy-filled, giving, holy, self-sacrificing love itself.

How can this be so?
How can they be both one and the other?
How does such beauty and such malfeasance coexist?
How do I cope with such a war, when it rages within me too?
