A colleague hit on me.
I was really flattered. It’s been a while since anybody did that.
I think my husband still fancies me, but he never says so.
I do wonder whether I’m just ugly now and nobody wants me.
But then someone hit on me, and for a few minutes I felt special.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.

You’d think it was a good thing, a good start.
Alas, nothing of the sort.
I awoke to consciousness on a flat, monochrome, earth. Light and the shadow partitioned the landscape with predictable regularity. I was a part of an army of light, stretched out across the rim of the world.
