Losing everything to gain it all

Matthew 13:44-46

She’d always known she was a girl.
Despite the blue they’d dressed her in.
Despite the pigeonholing throughout school.
Despite the trousers, jackets, and flat shoes.
Despite the voice that dropped and the hair that grew.
Despite her parents calling her ‘Paul’.
Despite being good at football.
Despite the lie who looked at her in the mirror.
She’d always known she was a girl.

They’d called her brave.
Despite the nights she’d cried.
Despite the hate she carried deep.
Despite the fear that gnawed away.
Despite the thoughts of suicide.
Despite the lies told every day.
Despite the hidden in plain sight.
Despite the deepest, deepest pain.
They’d called her brave.

Some called her true.
Despite the doubts of sanity,
Despite the cost of everything.
Despite the death of it.
Despite the loss and hurt.
Despite the work, hard work, such work.
Despite the stranger they all met.
Despite the woman that she knew.
Giving everything to live single truth.

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46
